Therefore, there is a contrast in the setting of Scene I and Scene II in Act V, and the effect of the settings contrast is to hide the evils of different characters under Scene I, but their evils are disclosed in Scene II. Othello, called from his bed by the noise, stops the brawl and strips Cassio of his lieutenancy. ![]() It is now possible to tell what who has been holding a grudge against the other, and what reasons inform the sweet revenge (Shakespeare, 195). Venice is ruled by a senate which includes a Duke and several senators. Thus under this setting, the evils deeds of the characters now come to the open, where the villains who have been hurting each other are known. Venice is a place where Othello is an outsider and he marries Desdemona in secret. Cyprus came to play a central part in this. The action of the play is set against the backdrop of the Venetian-Ottoman war, a longstanding conflict between the Venetian Christians and the Muslim Ottoman Empire. Darkness acts as a motif throughout the play as the majority of the tragic events take place at. Entirety of Act 1 takes place at night much like Act 5. Night as the setting is foreboding for the audience due to Iago and Roderigo being present on stage discussing the promotion/marriage. As opposed to the setting full of darkness in Scene I, the setting in Scene II is one where the acts of each character are recognizable. Othello, written by Shakespeare in 1603, is set in Venice and Cyprus during the Renaissance period in the latter half of the 1500s. Venice street, outside Brabantio's house. Othello is a Moorish military commander who was serving as a general of the Venetian army in defence of Cyprus against invasion by Ottoman Turks. The story revolves around two characters, Othello and Iago. On the other hand, Act V scene II is in a bedroom setting within the castle, where Desdemona finally meets her death (Shakespeare, 187). Othello (full title: The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice) is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare, probably in 1603. The effect of the setting is that, it has made it possible for evil to be committed without the ability to determine who is committing the evil against the others. By studying the characterisation of Othello and the setting, it is clear how Shakespeare uses these features to convince the audience that the change is. The dark setting allows Cassio to wound Roderigo, and then Iago wounds Cassio in his leg, but later pretends to be the one assisting him (Shakespeare, 182). Thus, the setting of Act 5 scene I comprise a dark setting where evil prevails in a way that is hidden, so that it is good time for the enemies to take revenge against one another. In this respect, it becomes completely difficult to tell who is doing what, and that is when the villains gets an opportunity to harm each other with their weapons, since they will not be known.
